Rock legends Guns N’ Rose officially released a leaked single, titled “Perhaps,” last Thursday (August 17).
The midtempo, piano-driven track finds Axl Rose meditating on a failed relationship. “You pulled the gun that shot and crucified my savior,” he sings.
The song arrives about a month after speculation rose about the band releasing new music following their post on Instagram. The teaser showed someone flipping through pieces of paper that had song titles “Perhaps” and “The General” written on them.
Then, Guns N’ Roses stage tech Tom Mayhue was heard divulging some details in a video telling a group of people about the band’s upcoming plans.
“I know that the band’s gonna start working on new music, they’ve got a bunch of stuff recorded already,” Mayhue said at the time. “So there will be new Guns N’ Roses music very soon. In fact, I think they’re trying to get a single out any day now, so you may hear something very, very soon.”
According to a press release, Rose, Slash and Duff McKagan wrote and recorded “Perhaps” this year. The song is their first collective new composition and recording together in thirty years since 1993’s The Spaghetti Incident?.
