Smashing Pumpkins have named Kiki Wong as their new guitarist after an extensive search.
After longtime guitarist Jeff Schroeder bid good bye in October 2023, the rock band started the recruitment process, with frontman Billy Corgan calling for applications for replacement.
From more than 10,000 applications received, Corgan filtered down to a shortlist. On the basis of audition of candidates in Los Angeles, he finally picked Wong.
The veteran guitarist has shared stages with acts like Bebe Rexha, Taylor Swift, Usher, Bret Michaels, as well as with rock bands Nylon Pink, Hellfire Heart, and currently Vigil of War.
“I was a fan of Kiki’s before she submitted her name to be considered – and it’s great that someone of her acumen will be part of our touring family. I can’t wait to hit the road with Kiki as part of our mad circus. It’s definitely an exciting moment for The Smashing Pumpkins to be this busy with touring in 2024. We’ll see you all this summer,” Corgan said in a statement.
Wong said she is “beyond honored and humbled to be chosen to perform alongside some of rock’s greatest and most influential musicians of all time.”
The new Smashing Pumpkins lineup, featuring Wong, Corgan, guitarist James Iha, drummer Jimmy Chamberlin, touring members Jack Bates (bass) and Katie Cole (guitar, keys, vocals), is scheduled to make its debut with a U.K. and European Tour beginning at Utilita Arena in Birmingham on June 7.
