MC5 have just shared a new song called “Can’t Be Found,” which features contributions from the Detroit rock band’s original drummer, Dennis “Machine Gun” Thompson, along with Living Colour guitarist Vernon Reid. “Can’t Be Found” is the latest track shared from Heavy Lifting, the first new MC5 album in 53 years which is set to be released on October 18. The band’s founding guitarist Wayne Kramer recorded a majority of the new album shortly before his death on February 2, 2024, with other guest contributions coming from Slash, Tom Morello, and Alice in Chains’ William Duvall.
Kramer co-wrote 12 of the 13 songs with Brad Brooks, who has performed with MC5 over the last few years. Thompson also recently passed away last May, and his drumming on “Can’t Be Found” is a living testament to his rapid-fire percussion style. MC5 are set to be inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame on October 19 – the day after Heavy Lifting comes out – when they will be honored with the “Musical Excellence Award.” (Consequence of Sound)
