David Gilmour is proud of his forthcoming solo album, Luck and Strange, due out September 6. The former Pink Floyd singer/guitarist called his new record, “the best album I’ve made in all those years since 1973 when The Dark Side of the Moon came out,” while saying he’s reluctant to play Roger Waters-era Floyd songs during his upcoming tour. In an interview with Rolling Stone, Gilmour walks back those statements. “It’s a flip statement, really,” he says. “It feels to me like it’s the best thing I’ve done in more or less my living memory, because some of those things feel like they were someone else. I was in my 30s when Roger left our little pop group and I’m 78.”

Gilmour also said he’ll play Floyd songs on tour. “I think I will be doing one or two things from that time, but it just seems so long ago. I know people love them, and I love playing them. I’ll be doing ‘Wish You Were Here,’ and some of the things that started with me anyway. I don’t think I’ll be doing ‘Money,’ if that’s your reason for coming.” (Ultimate Classic Rock)
