On Friday (July 19), Jack White shared surprise copies of his unannounced new album with unsuspecting customers at his Third Man Records shops in Detroit, Nashville, and London. Music fans received vinyl test copies of White’s new record slipped into their bags after making a purchase at his three stores. There wasn’t any album information or song titles included on the records, only a label that simply read, “No Name.” Third Man Records Instagram shared photos and videos from shocked customers, eventually posting a story encouraging fans to “RIP IT … BUT FIRST TELL 7 FRIENDS.”
Detroit public radio station WDET, which is located across the street from Third Man Records, even played some of the album live on the air. Third Man later posted, “Today you have proven that the quiet rumblings of something mysterious can grow into the beautiful experience of a community sharing the excitement and energy of music & art.” No word yet on whether White’s new album will get an official release.
