Jerry Cantrell has announced that he will be releasing a new solo album titled, I Want Blood, on October 18. The Alice in Chains singer/guitarist also shared the album’s lead single, “Vilified,” which kicks off his new record. The announcement of Cantrell’s new material comes just as the grunge legend hits the road for a 7-week run of shows supporting Bush throughout North America. I Want Blood is a follow-up to Cantrell’s 2021 solo album, Brighten.
“This record is a serious piece of work. It’s a motherf**ker,” Cantrell said. “It’s hard, no doubt, and completely unlike Brighten. And that’s what you want, to end up in a different place. There’s a confidence to this album. I think it’s some of my best songwriting and playing, and certainly some of my best singing.” I Want Blood features an impressive list of guest stars, including bassists Duff McKagan (Guns N’ Roses) and Robert Trujillo (Metallica); drummers Mike Bordin (Faith No More) and Gil Sharone (Team Sleep); and backing vocals by Greg Puciato (ex-Dillinger Escape Plan) and Lola Colette.
