Metallica have announced the winners of their “For Whom The Band Tolls!” marching band competition.
The winners are: College (Division 1) – Auburn University, College (Divisions 2 & 3) – Eastern New Mexico University, High School (Large) – Dobyns-Bennett High School (Kingsport, TN), High School (Medium) – Boerne High School (Boerne, TX) and Malverne High School (Malverne, NY), High School (Small) – Oakton High School (Vienna, VA).
Additionally, Fan Favorite winners in College and High School categories have been selected on the basis of popular vote. Fan Favorite (College): Auburn University and Fan Favorite (High School): Dobyns-Bennett High School (Kingsport, TN).
In April last year, the heavy metal band challenged marching bands across the United States to create performances incorporating Metallica songs into their shows.
“The response blew us away and made for a heated competition,” the band said, referring to more than 450 colleges and high schools that accepted the challenge.
Based on fans casting their votes for their favorite performances, professional judges narrowed it down to five finalists in each category. Finally, the members of Metallica chose the grand prize winners.
The victors in each category will receive instruments and equipment for their programs valued at a total of nearly $200,000.
