During a performance by Red Hot Chili Peppers drummer Chad Smith and producer Andrew Watt in the Hamptons on Tuesday night (August 20th), Paul McCartney surprised everyone by joining the band for a few special songs. McCartney hopped up on the small, intimate stage at at Stephen Talkhouse in Amagansett, New York, and joined in with Watt and Smith for a spirited rendition of the Beatles’ classic, “I Saw Her Standing There,” along with a rousing cover of Neil Young’s “Rockin’ in the Free World.”

Watt and Smith played alongside former Saturday Night Live bandleader and Hall & Oates guitarist, G. E. Smith, during their entire set, with Watt’s girlfriend Charlotte Lawrence even joining in the fun by singing with McCartney during “Rockin’ in the Free World.” Watt and McCartney have recently worked together professionally, with Andrew producing the Rolling Stones’ 2023 album, Hackney Diamonds, which featured a guest appearance by Sir Paul on “Bite My Head Off.” (Consequence of Sound)
