Some of the biggest names in music are set to take part in a tribute concert for Robbie Robertson that will take place on October 17 at L.A.’s Kia Forum. Life Is a Carnival: A Musical Celebration of Robbie Robertson will be executive produced by Robertson’s longtime friend and collaborator, Martin Scorsese. The lineup features three artists who performed with Robertson and The Band in Scorsese’s 1986 concert film, The Last Waltz, Eric Clapton, Van Morrison, and Mavis Staples.
Other contemporaries on the bill for the tribute include Grateful Dead icon Bobby Weir and blues legend Taj Mahal, along with Elvis Costello, Lucinda Williams, Daniel Lanois, Warren Haynes, and Bruce Hornsby. Modern artists influenced by Robertson’s music are also taking part in the tribute concert, with Eric Church, Jim James, Allison Russell, Trey Anastasio, Nathaniel Rateliff, Margo Price, and Noah Kahan all featured in the impressive lineup.
